Brighton issue ‘important and critical’ statement to travelling fans ahead of Europa League trip to Marseille

Brighton finished in sixth place in the Premier League last year, which helped them qualify for the Europa League. They will play Marseille, Ajax, and AEK Athens in the group rounds.

Athens will be the Seagulls’ first opponent in Europe on September 21 at the American Express Stadium, but Marseille will be their first opponent on the road on October 5. Kickoff for Marseille is at 6.45 p.m. local time, or 5.45 p.m. UK time.

Officials from Brighton have spoken with UEFA, Olympique de Marseille, and the French Police. In Marseille, Albion supporters were warned to expect “a hostile environment” and to always “exercise caution.”

The team has issued strict instructions, including the possibility of fines for fans who visit Marseille’s Old Port (Vieux Port), to refrain from donning Brighton shirts, and to avoid congregating in big groups. The club also announced that Sussex Police will have officers in the city.
