JUST IN : Newcastle United owner Amanda Staveley addressed the team as they return from international duties

Prior to the women’s team’s victory over Stoke City over the weekend, Newcastle United owner Amanda Staveley spoke to them, and her comments had the desired impact.

The ‘driving force’ for Newcastle United, Amanda Staveley even inspired the women’s team to victory over Stoke City.

After the Magpies preserved their unblemished start to the season with a 3-1 victory at Kingston Park on Sunday, that is what first-team coach of Newcastle Women Andy Cook said. Following their promotion to the third division, Becky Langley’s team has already won all three of their initial contests in the National League Northern Premier Division.

Staveley, who spoke to the players prior to the game, was present and saw Newcastle go up 2-0 after just 24 minutes thanks to Georgia Gibson and Elysia Boddy. Following a play-break caused by a thunderstorm, Abby Hunt scored for Stoke just after the hour mark, but Bridget Galloway’s late goal gave Newcastle the victory.

Newcastle takeover: Sportswashing isn't buying a club in the relegation zone, says Amanda Staveley

Newcastle has already discovered a ‘rough diamond’ number nine who made an impression for the young team at the age of 14.

Staveley’s presence was undoubtedly noticed, and Cook disclosed that the part-owner spoke to the group prior to the victory.

“I’ve been at four or five different women’s teams over the course of my career, and I’ve never seen an owner there,” he said to NUFC TV. “Meeting Amanda was great, and she’s been a motivator for both the men and the women.

It’s wonderful to have her here. Before we went outside and warmed up, she spoke to the girls, and that provided the inspiration they required.

“You can’t help but go out and put on a show when you hear the owner talk passionately about the women’s game, what she wants from the club, and the team. She should perhaps come every week and give the pre-match team talk since the first half was undoubtedly due to her pre-match preparation.
