Eddie Howe is optimistic that Joelinton will be “back soon” after missing our previous two games due to a knee injury.
After our 1-0 win over Brentford last Saturday, Howe revealed that the Brazilian would be sidelined for “a few weeks,” meaning he will miss our first Champions League match against AC Milan on Tuesday.
The manager acknowledged that we missed his ball-winning abilities and muscular presence at the San Siro, but his comments imply that it won’t be long until our midfield dynamo returns to full fitness.
Joelinton is thought to have consulted a knee specialist in Barcelona last weekend, but he is still not back on Tyneside and will hopefully return to duty sooner than expected.
Howe explained his absence to TNT Sports after the game:
“Yeah, Joe is a big player for us and has been for a while.” A huge personality. “We missed his ball-winning skills in the middle of the pitch,” said the coach. But, hopefully, he’ll return soon. This does not appear to be a significant injury. But it’s clearly enough to keep him out for the time being.”
