It was a real blow to him. He’d had an operation on his groin, they internally stitched it like an anchor inside his body, and one of them popped out having a shot and that was it.

“It was incredibly frustrating because he was feeling great. He is still a bit away yet, nowhere near training with us but is beginning to work with the sports science people.”

Dyche made his remarks after Everton owner Farhad Moshiri decided to sell the club to 777 Partners. The American financial business already has shares in a number of teams in Europe, South America, and Australia, but Dyche stated the takeover is still some time away and that his future as manager has not been discussed.

“No, nothing like that,” the former Burnley manager stated after visiting Goodison Park with 777 managing partner Josh Wander. “At this point, it’s really casual. They made it apparent to all of us present at the meeting that the deal has a long way to go before it is finalized.

“Most of it was very casual to be honest. It was just a feel of what I’ve learned in my time here – and others were involved in the chat of course – but on the football side of things, a feel of what I’ve learned here, the challenges ahead and stuff like that but it was a very casual meeting.

The new football season is upon us and with 500 live games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL and the NBA across eight dedicated channels, Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action.

“At this early stage they were very honest and promoted the thought that it’s still not done and it’s going to take time to get the deal done in the sense of all the fit and proper tests and all that sort of stuff. I think they were more getting a feel of what our thoughts were and what my thoughts were since coming into the club rather than giving us any directives on what they’re planning, it was more absorbing some of the feel of the club and getting a feel of it.

“It was a broad brush approach; it wasn’t about the details.” We were discussing the feel of it, how the past meets the present and the future, and how to bring it all together and forwards, as well as the issue that we had, the market, financing, and everything that has happened since I arrived.”
