JUST IN : Leeds United have confirmed three key players as January transfer window target

Matt O’Riley, Leeds United’s August transfer target and a Celtic midfielder, is garnering interest from across Europe ahead of the January transfer window.

After initially losing Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, and Adam Forshaw, the Whites did well to significantly strengthen in midfield during the summer window.

Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, and Ilia Gruev have joined the club to replace the trio, while Archie Gray has made his long-awaited senior debut. Could Leeds have brought in Matt O’Riley?
Another midfielder on the club’s radar was Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, who shone under Ange Postecoglou last season with four goals and 14 assists.

He’s already had four goals and two assists this season under Brendan Rodgers, after Leeds presented a £10 million bid for the Danish under-21 international.

Celtic rejected Leeds’ eight-figure bid for the midfielder, with the Scottish Sun reporting that a new contract for the 22-year-old might be on the way soon. What’s the most recent news?
According to Sky Sports, the midfielder could be given his first senior Denmark call-up for the forthcoming international break.

Furthermore, the report states that he is currently garnering attention from around Europe:

“O’Riley is also in contract talks with Celtic, having won two Scottish titles, the Scottish Cup, and the Scottish League Cup since signing.”

from MK Dons in January 2022. However, Leeds had at least one bid for the former Fulham midfielder rejected towards the end of the summer transfer window, and there is expected to be further interest from clubs across Europe in January.” O’Riley would have been a great addition to our side and perhaps a better solution to our attacking midfield void.

His goals and assists return over the last year or so has been immense for Celtic and his future seems set in a bigger league than the Scottish Premiership.

The issue for us is that we don’t have the spending power in the Championship to justify paying what Celtic will want.

He could be the one that got away in a few years’ time.
