Alan Shearer, a Newcastle United icon, has praised Magpies duo Tino Livramento and Paul Dummett following their Carabao Cup victory against Manchester City.
Eddie Howe’s men faced Pep Guardiola’s triple champions in a third-round match at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
Newcastle destroyed City’s chances of a treble with a 53rd-minute close-range strike from Alexander Isak.
Jacob Murphy and Joelinton both performed well to set up Isak, who took advantage of Rico Lewis allowing the ball run between his legs at the back post.
Although City dominated the first half, Newcastle outplayed them in the second. They were deserving winners and will enter the fourth round with confidence.
Tino Livramento made a good debut for the Magpies, keeping Jack Grealish quiet and making a late save against Matheus Nunes.
In a rare appearance at center-back, Paul Dummett impressed with a fantastic last-ditch tackle to stop Grealish going one-on-one.
Shearer singled out Livramento and Dummett for praise after the game on X. In our opinion
Newcastle put up a fantastic performance. They’ll fancy their chances against anyone in the coming stages after grabbing the biggest scalp in English football.
Livramento has just recently arrived in Newcastle and, at the age of 20, has his entire future ahead of him.
Dummett, on the other hand, is a Newcastle veteran. The 32-year-old ace (Spotrac) earned £35,000 per week at St James’ Park. At the moment, everyone at SJP is on the same wavelength, which is yielding fantastic outcomes that fans will remember for a long time.
