Premier League team of the week dominated by Aston Villa players

The Premier League team of the week for the weekend of September 30 to October 2 is as follows. Gameweek seven of the Premier League produced some intriguing outcomes, with a total of 29 goals scored over the course of three days.

Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers both had reason to celebrate after scoring significant wins in different ways. Unai Emery’s side began the Premier League weekend with a resounding 6-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Ollie Watkins scored a hat-trick in front of England boss Gareth Southgate, while Jacob Ramsey scored on his return from injury.

Pervis Estupinan scored an own goal, and while Ansu Fati drew back a consolation, Douglas Luiz doubled the lead in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

At Molienux, we witnessed one of the weekend’s most surprising results, as Wolves defeated Premier League champions Manchester City. Gary O’Neil’s team had been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Ipswich Town in midweek, so a win over the Citizens was a pleasant surprise after the disappointment on Tuesday night.

Pedro Neto put in an outstanding performance, and his marauding run resulted in Ruben Dias scoring an own goal, as he steered the ball into his own net and past goalkeeper Ederson. Pep Guardiola’s team was level after Julian Alvarez’s goal, but it didn’t last long as Hwang Hee-chan restored their lead and City couldn’t respond.

Elsewhere, Arsenal defeated AFC Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium, while West Ham United defeated strugglers Sheffield United 2-0, and Chelsea won on the road for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino, defeating West London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Villa are now fifth in the league, just three points behind league leaders Manchester City, while Wolves have risen to 15th, four points above the relegation zone. Individual efforts by numerous Wolves and Aston Villa players earned them a spot in the Premier League team of the week, and their inclusions are well merited.
