Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton thinks Chelsea could have Ollie Watkins on their shortlist.
Ollie Watkins has been in fine form this season, scoring four goals in seven games in the Premier League, and Hutton has told Villa News that he expects clubs to start looking at the 27-year-old if he maintains his form.
Chelsea have seen first-hand what Watkins can do, with the Villa striker scoring his side’s winner against Mauricio Pochettino’s men last month.
Since then, he has gone on to bag a hat-trick, putting three past Brighton & Hove Albion in the Villans’ incredible 6-1 win last Saturday.
Watkins has picked up from where he left off last term. In the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, he scored 15 goals in 37 outings.
Alan Hutton thinks Ollie Watkins could be on Chelsea’s shortlist
Hutton has a feeling that Chelsea could be looking at Watkins.
On the Blues, the retired full-back said: “In terms of looking for that number nine, I’m sure they have a shortlist. Could Ollie Watkins be on it? Possibly.
“If he keeps on scoring goals and playing well for Aston Villa, there’s no doubt people will be looking at him.”
Chelsea interested in Ollie Watkins
Chelsea may very well have Watkins on their shortlist. There have been some reports linking the England international with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Goals have been a bit of a problem for Pochettino’s side this season. They are averaging just one per game in the Premier League.Scoring at that rate, Chelsea have zero chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Simply put, they need more firepower in their squad and maybe Watkins could give them that.
