Despite another defeat over the weekend, Queens Park Rangers will not seek to remove head coach Gareth Ainsworth, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
QPR have now gone six games without a win in the Championship, putting them two points above the drop zone. The team’s most recent away win came against Middlesbrough in early September.
This season, the London team had only two wins from 11 games, both coming away from home against Cardiff City and Boro. However, after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers, the Hoops have set a new club record.
Ainsworth’s men have now lost eleven consecutive home games, the most in the club’s 141-year existence. The Loftus Road faithful last watched a victory in March against Watford.
The former Wycombe Wanderers manager has come under increased scrutiny from fans, but Darren Witcoop claims that the QPR board is not looking to take action just yet.
Witcoop responded to a follower on Twitter/X by writing:
“GA [Gareth Ainsworth] appears to be safe…for now”
Witcoop also believes that QPR should capitalize on John Eustace’s departure from Birmingham City:
“You’d think Birmingham had learned their lesson when they fired a popular manager who was doing well and replaced him with a big name in Zola.”
“Wayne Rooney does a good job, but he starts on the back foot.” Look no further than old No. 2 John Eustace, who understands the club.
QPR’s next game is against Huddersfield Town in less than two weeks, and it will be a must-win game for the club in their bid to stay in England’s second tier.
Author’s Opinion
It’s never good to see a manager fired, especially when they’ve had to cope with as many injuries in the squad as Ainsworth has in recent months.
At the very least, the 50-year-old should be given till the trip to John Smith’s Stadium to try to turn things around.
