Newcastle have now ‘discussed’ move for £60m star at St. James’ Park

Newcastle United has reportedly discussed the possibility of making a move for Arsenal’s rising star, Emile Smith Rowe, in the upcoming January transfer window. Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared insights on Newcastle’s chances of securing the Englishman’s signature. Smith Rowe has faced challenges in securing regular playing time with Arsenal, and there are indications that he might consider leaving the club in the future.

Smith Rowe’s career at Arsenal hasn’t unfolded as expected since his debut in the senior squad five years ago. He, along with fellow academy graduate Bukayo Saka, was anticipated to establish himself as a key player for Arsenal. However, at the age of 23, this hasn’t quite materialized.

In the current season, Smith Rowe has only started one out of Arsenal’s 12 matches in all competitions. This limited playing time has raised the possibility of him seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Journalist Dean Jones acknowledged that Smith Rowe has been facing difficulties at the Emirates Stadium and suggested that he is running out of time to prove his worth to manager Mikel Arteta. Although he’s not a regular starter, Smith Rowe does make appearances off the bench. However, he is no longer content with sporadic opportunities, and this could lead to a potential January departure, with Newcastle expressing interest.

When asked about the latest developments in the Smith Rowe situation, journalist Ben Jacobs noted that it appears increasingly likely he will leave Arsenal when the January transfer window opens. While nothing is considered “advanced” at this stage, Jacobs emphasized that Smith Rowe is unhappy with his current playing time and might choose to push for a move.

Smith Rowe’s potential departure from Arsenal may be hindered by the asking price. With a contract running until 2026, Arsenal holds significant leverage. However, he is not deemed untouchable, and a bid in the vicinity of £60 million, influenced by Mason Mount’s recent transfer fee, could entice Arsenal to consider a deal. Several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle and West Ham United, are reportedly interested in Smith Rowe, meaning that the competition for his signature will be fierce, requiring a substantial financial offer.
