Arsenal is maintaining its interest in Premier League talents Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa and Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a potential January transfer, as reported by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. In the summer of 2022, the Gunners made multiple attempts to secure the services of midfielder Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, but their offers were rejected by Villa, who were determined to retain the Brazilian international. Since then, Luiz has solidified his position as one of the most consistent performers under manager Unai Emery.
Similarly, during the same summer transfer window, Arsenal also expressed interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ winger Pedro Neto. Considering Arsenal heavily relies on right-winger Bukayo Saka, having additional competition for that position could prove invaluable to provide Saka with the opportunity to rest. Neto appears to be a sensible option to pursue in January, and Fabrizio Romano has now disclosed that Arsenal continues to hold both Premier League youngsters in high regard.
In an interview with Caught Offside, the Italian journalist stated, “As I recently reported, Arsenal has been monitoring Pedro Neto for a while, and I can confirm that Arsenal still keeps tabs on the same players they are interested in, with Aston Villa’s midfielder Douglas Luiz being one of them. He has consistently garnered appreciation. Of course, we are aware that Arsenal had their offers for Luiz rejected in September 2022, and subsequently, he signed a new contract at Villa Park, committing to the club until 2026. He has become a pivotal player for Villa, making any potential deal a challenging one, though he remains highly regarded by many clubs.”
The actual decision of whether Arsenal will make a move for either of these players in January remains uncertain. Furthermore, there have been recent speculations about the possibility of Arsenal targeting Brentford’s center-forward Ivan Toney as another potential addition to their squad.
