The latest reports indicate that Borussia Dortmund’s striker, Youssoufa Moukoko, is determined to secure a loan move away from the club in January. Among the interested parties, it’s been suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) are considering this opportunity.
Moukoko, who is currently 18 years old, has faced significant challenges in finding playing time during the 2023/24 season, having only made six appearances across various competitions. To make matters more challenging, he has spent just 66 minutes on the pitch during these six appearances and hasn’t been utilized as a substitute in Dortmund’s last three Bundesliga matches.
Back in December 2020, Moukoko made his debut and appeared poised for a bright future, even becoming the youngest player in Bundesliga history at just 16 years and one day old. However, things haven’t progressed as expected, leading to speculation about his potential departure. Wolves are closely monitoring this situation.
According to a report from 90min, Moukoko might depart Dortmund in January due to his limited playing time, especially following the arrival of Niclas Fullkrug, which further reduced his minutes. His representatives are actively exploring potential loan options, and Wolves have expressed their interest. Nevertheless, they face competition from other clubs like Brentford, Lazio, Fiorentina, Lens, and Lyon.
Moukoko’s desire for regular playing time stems from his aspiration to secure a place in Germany’s final Euro 2024 squad. Often compared to the legendary Samuel Eto’o, he is known for his prowess as a center-forward, scoring a majority of his goals from within the penalty area.
However, it’s worth noting that it might be unlikely for Moukoko to choose a move to Wolves. The club might struggle to provide the significant game time he desires, especially with a major international tournament on the horizon. Wolves have other young strikers like Matheus Cunha, Sasa Kalajdzic, and Fabio Silva in their ranks, and it may make more sense for them to target a more experienced center-forward during the January transfer window, given the upcoming tournament and existing options in their squad.
