Fulham, a Premier League club, is showing interest in acquiring the services of Southampton’s rising talent, Carlos Alcaraz, in the upcoming January transfer window. However, Fulham will need to prepare for a substantial financial commitment.
Alcaraz made his move to St. Mary’s Stadium in January for a £12 million fee from the Argentine club Racing Club. It was agreed that Southampton would pay a 15 percent sell-on fee to Racing Club if they decide to sell the player in the future. Alcaraz arrived during a challenging period for Southampton, with the club experiencing relegation in his first half-season. Nevertheless, he stood out as one of the few standout performers during this period, managing to score four Premier League goals in 18 games.
In the current season, the 20-year-old midfielder has featured in 12 matches across various competitions for Southampton, including 10 appearances in the Championship. His talents have also attracted interest from Newcastle United, as reported by talkSPORT. Furthermore, The Sun disclosed that Portuguese champions Benfica and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have shown a keen interest in signing the Argentine central midfielder. Football Transfers reported that Southampton had placed a £30 million price tag on the young player, nearly three times what they initially paid for him less than a year ago.
Nevertheless, shortly after Football Transfers’ report, Southampton announced that Alcaraz had agreed to a new five-year contract, even though he had initially signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined in January.
However, the Evening Standard has reported that Fulham, a Premier League side, is considering making a move for Alcaraz when the winter transfer window opens. This suggests that despite his contract extension, Fulham remains interested in his services.
In summary, Southampton initially set a £30 million price tag on Alcaraz before he signed his new contract, and this valuation may have increased since. While Alcaraz’s contract extension indicates his current contentment at Southampton, his situation could change if the club fails to secure promotion back to the Premier League, potentially making Fulham an attractive option for him.
