Manchester United is set to face Newcastle United in a Carabao Cup match, marking a rematch of last season’s final. Ahead of this clash, Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, has implied that he intends to make some alterations to his team for the fourth round encounter with Manchester United, as they seek to avenge their loss in last year’s final.
The upcoming match finds Manchester United coming off a disappointing defeat in a local derby against City, while Newcastle has struggled to secure victories in three of their last four matches in various competitions.
Newcastle encountered frustration in a 2-2 draw against Wolves during the weekend, prompting Howe to suggest that there might be changes in the lineup compared to the team that played at Molineux. Howe acknowledged the busy schedule, mentioning upcoming matches against Arsenal and Dortmund, and emphasized the need to utilize the squad wisely. Despite this, he expressed his intent to approach the game against Manchester United with a clear game plan and a competitive spirit.
Unfortunately, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak will be unavailable for the match at Old Trafford, and Sandro Tonali is suspended for the remainder of the season.
Newcastle doesn’t anticipate any players returning to their squad ahead of the match, and it’s likely they will field the same lineup as the previous weekend. Howe provided some insights into the injuries, mentioning that Sven Botman’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, and they are monitoring his situation day by day. As for Alexander Isak, there is hope for his return after the international break, but no additional players are expected to become available for the match against Manchester United beyond those they had for the Wolves game.
