Derby County’s manager, Paul Warne, expressed his pride in his team’s performance following their 2-2 draw against Crewe Alexandra. Crewe initially seemed poised to advance to the second round of the FA Cup, holding a 2-0 lead through goals from Courtney Baker-Richardson and Elliott Nevitt. However, the Rams staged a remarkable comeback to secure a replay at Pride Park, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scoring in the 89th minute and Conor Hourihane equalizing in injury time.
In the event of a victory in the replay, Derby will have the opportunity to host fellow League One side Bristol Rovers. Warne spoke with the Derby Telegraph and commended his team for their comeback, suggesting that they had dominated Crewe’s performance. He acknowledged that they had been fortunate not to lose and noted their
defensive lapse on the first Crewe goal. Despite the potential 2-0 loss, he would have still taken pride in the team’s performance and felt they had controlled the game. The draw felt like a victory to him, although he acknowledged that it technically wasn’t. The upcoming game offered them another chance to continue their journey in the competition.
Warne, who has faced pressure due to recent poor results and performances, managed to avert what could have been another embarrassing defeat. He credited his squad’s resilience and quality for saving them from a difficult situation.
