Sunderland’s stunning price for potential star in January now revealed as Premier League club anticipation

Sunderland winger Jack Clarke has drawn the attention of Premier League club Brentford in anticipation of the January transfer window.

Reported by Alan Nixon, Brentford is closely monitoring Clarke’s situation due to an apparent deadlock in contract negotiations between the player and the club. Sunderland has offered Clarke a new contract with an increased salary and wishes to include a substantial sell-on clause in the deal.

However, it seems that the offered pay rise is insufficient to persuade the 22-year-old to stay at Sunderland, as he believes he can earn more in the Premier League.

Sunderland is rumored to be seeking £20 million as an upfront transfer fee for the winger, but it may require extensive negotiations to reach an agreement.

Brentford, on the other hand, is reportedly considering a bid of around £15 million. In the previous summer, Burnley also had offers for Clarke turned down.

Losing Clarke would be a significant setback for Manager Tony Mowbray, who has praised him as a valuable player. Clarke has been the primary source of goals for Sunderland this season, with nine goals in 15 games, matching his entire goal tally from the previous season. He is also the leading scorer in the Championship this season, which has been crucial for Sunderland, given the struggles of their strikers to find the net.

Mowbray has recently attributed their inability to pick up points to the strikers’ lack of experience, as highlighted in the 0-0 draw against Swansea.
