Hull City’s vice-chairman, Tan Kesler, has revealed that Acun Ilicali, the club’s owner, has a strong desire to extend Liam Delap’s stay beyond the current season. Delap, a striker, joined Hull City from Manchester City during the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old has been considered a promising talent for some time, previously impressing in Derby County’s youth ranks before making a high-profile move to Manchester City.
Although Delap has made six senior appearances for Manchester City, scoring once, he also boasts an impressive record of 35 goals in 36 games for the U21s. However, loan spells with Stoke City and Preston North End didn’t yield the expected results, raising questions about his readiness for senior-level football.
Since joining Hull City, Delap’s form has put many doubts to rest. He has scored four goals in 15 Championship games, and his performances have earned praise from various observers.
Kesler has now revealed Ilicali’s ambition to retain Delap beyond his loan period. He expressed Ilicali’s dream of extending the young striker’s stay and the club’s intention to consider it if circumstances allow. Kesler also emphasized the club’s commitment to improving the squad and supporting loan players as if they were permanent members of the team.
Hull City’s ambitious aspirations are well-known, and while Delap is seen as a future star at Manchester City, it’s not surprising to hear that the owner envisions a long-term deal for the striker. The club has a history of making notable signings under Ilicali’s ownership, and it’s likely that they will continue to do so in the coming years.
For now, Delap’s focus will remain on giving his best for Hull City. His goal tally for the current season already surpasses what he achieved during his loan spells with Stoke City and Preston, and he is determined to continue performing at a high level.
Hull City currently occupies the 9th position in the Championship table, and the form of players like Delap will be crucial if they aim to secure a spot in the play-offs.
