Dan James has shared how Daniel Farke, Leeds United’s manager, assured him that he would play a crucial role in the team this season upon his return to the club. Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, James discussed his experience working under Farke in recent months.
The 25-year-old had spent the previous season on loan at Fulham after being deemed surplus to requirements by former manager Jesse Marsch toward the end of the transfer window. Despite a challenging time at Craven Cottage, James returned to Leeds, which had been relegated to the Championship, with the intention of staying.
James’ decision to stay at Leeds has proven fruitful, as he has become a key player in Farke’s team, edging out competition from Willy Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony.
Upon his return to pre-season training, which was slightly delayed due to international duties, James revealed that Farke informed him on his first day back that he would have a significant role to play in the upcoming season. James expressed his satisfaction with this early assurance, highlighting Farke’s strong emphasis on analysis and his demanding coaching style, which has also benefited other players like Ampadu and Rodon.
While James can still be inconsistent at times, Farke has managed to find a position for him on the right side of the team that allows him to perform at his best.
So far this season, James has contributed three goals and four assists, placing him among the top contributors for the team, alongside Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter. It is clear that Farke’s support and confidence have helped James overcome the challenges he faced during his time at Fulham.
