Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided an update on the injuries affecting quarterback Matthew Stafford and several other players during the team’s bye week.
The Los Angeles Rams have experienced a three-game losing streak and currently find themselves in a precarious situation with a 3-6 record after a 20-3 road loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Similar to the previous season, the Rams are grappling with injury problems, which prevented several key players from participating in the game against Green Bay. This includes quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had suffered a sprained UCL in his thumb the week before.
In Stafford’s absence, the Rams turned to Brett Rypien as their quarterback but didn’t achieve the desired results. Rypien completed 13 of 28 passes for 130 yards and an interception, in addition to three runs for 19 yards. The question arises as to whether Rypien will continue to start if Stafford remains unavailable after the bye week. However, Rams coach Sean McVay doesn’t believe this will be a dilemma.
McVay stated, “The good news is that based on the direction we’re heading, I don’t think that will be a topic of concern. I have a lot of confidence in Matthew and his dedication to returning and leading the team.”
McVay also emphasized that having Stafford back would significantly boost the Rams’ offense, especially given their recent struggles without the veteran quarterback.
Furthermore, the Rams anticipate the return of right tackle Rob Havenstein, running back Kyren Williams, linebacker Ernest Jones, and defensive tackle Bobby Brown III.
As the Rams look ahead to the second half of the season, there will be a considerable amount of evaluation in various aspects of the team. However, McVay believes that the starting quarterback position won’t be a significant area of concern.
McVay mentioned that the quarterback position is an area where they might consider adding competition, either as a replacement for Rypien or to provide additional options. However, no final decision has been made on this matter.
Therefore, the Rams are now in a waiting period, hoping that their losing streak will come to an end after the bye week, with key players returning to the field.
