The Welsh international maintained his impressive form during the weekend’s match, despite the team’s recent displeasure with their results. Sorba Thomas, the Terriers winger, openly admitted that the dressing room was embarrassed by their consecutive heavy losses to Cardiff and Leeds. He expressed relief at their more respectable performance against Watford.
Huddersfield Town’s manager, Darren Moore, typically prefers to address his players’ issues privately rather than criticizing them publicly. However, Thomas revealed that the manager had some candid conversations with the team before the goalless draw against Watford, especially given the team’s injury struggles.
Thomas stated on the club’s YouTube channel, “Conceding eight goals in two games is far from ideal. We know we fell short, and it was embarrassing in both games, conceding goals early on. The manager had some frank discussions with us, and I believe our performance against Watford was a response to that.”
It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Thomas consistently puts in whole-hearted efforts since Moore’s arrival at the club, earning praise for his hard work even when some of his teammates have been criticized for lackluster performances.
Furthermore, Thomas acknowledged that a conversation with the manager, who asked him to be a role model for the club’s younger players, played a part in maintaining high standards. He said, “The manager has suggested that I don’t need to be the captain to be a leader. According to him, some of the younger players look up to me, and all I can do is set an example on the pitch week in and week out, working hard. Hard work pays off, and all I can do is be of assistance. That’s my role.”
“I despise losing. I wasn’t the most pleasant person to be around last week. But my focus is on helping the team going forward and contributing defensively. I need to maintain my place in the team and stay committed to my goals for the year. Working hard is the only way to achieve those goals.”
