New Zealand’s All Blacks and Crusaders center, Braydon Ennor, is set to miss the entire 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season due to an unfortunate injury, as confirmed by the club.
The 26-year-old had missed an opportunity to secure a place in the 2023 Rugby World Cup squad after sustaining an injury in the Bledisloe Cup Test in Dunedin. In that match against the Wallabies, he suffered an ACL injury and subsequently underwent knee reconstruction.
However, it was revealed that Ennor developed an infection that will keep him sidelined for the entire Super Rugby season. The Crusaders shared the news on their official social media account, expressing their disappointment and noting that while he won’t be on the field, they believe he will continue to support the team off it.
The club provided further details in a statement on their website, explaining the situation:
“Braydon Ennor injured his knee in August while playing in the All Blacks versus Australia Bledisloe test in Dunedin. He underwent ACL reconstruction the same month, and unfortunately, he developed an infection in his knee, which affected the early stages of his rehab. While the infection was successfully treated, his expected return to play has been altered as a result. He will return to play in the second half of 2024.”
Ennor has had a string of injuries, including another ACL injury in 2020 while featuring in the North vs. South Island match.
To compensate for Ennor’s absence, the Crusaders have signed former All Blacks center Ryan Crotty, who is returning to the team after a four-year stint in Japan with the Kubota Spears. Crotty expressed his excitement about coming back to the Crusaders and the opportunity to spend more time with his young family.
