Charlton Athletic’s striker Alfie May has been nominated for the League One Player of the Month award for October. May, who joined Charlton from Cheltenham Town in the summer, has been in prolific form, scoring a total of 11 goals in the current campaign, with an impressive seven of those goals coming in six matches during the previous month.
In the Player of the Month shortlist for October, May is competing against Jordan Gibson, a winger from Carlisle United, Luke Leahy, a center-back from Wycombe, and Conor Shaughnessy, a defender from Portsmouth.
The winner of the award will be announced on Friday morning.
Shortly after signing for Charlton, May expressed his ambition to surpass the 20-goal mark, having previously scored 22 goals in his last season at Cheltenham. He stated his determination, saying, “I want to go and hit 20-plus again. The pressure is probably on me now to do that. I know strikers can have bad spells. But the best thing I’ve done in the last two years – it probably sounds a bit big-headed or people might take it a little different – is that I walk onto that pitch and I say to myself that I want to be the best player on there that day. If I’m not, then my mindset is that I am going to be the best player in the next game.” May’s commitment to being the best on the field reflects his competitive spirit and desire to excel in his role as a striker.
