Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca addressed the media ahead of the EFL Championship clash against Middlesbrough, shedding light on the injury status of key players, including Wilfred Ndidi. The Nigeria Football Federation recently released the Super Eagles’ roster for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with notable omissions of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Wilfred Ndidi, and Zaidu Sanusi.
Ndidi, who underwent a scan before Leicester City’s match against Sunderland, was advised by the medical team to rest until further investigations. Subsequent tests revealed a more serious muscular injury than initially reported. Maresca provided a timeframe for Ndidi’s recovery, indicating that the midfielder is expected to return after the upcoming international break.
In quotes shared by Leicester City’s official website, Maresca stated, “[Ndidi and Yunus] are still out. Hopefully, we can have both after the international break. Dennis [Praet] is joining us for part of the session already, so hopefully, we can have him after the break. Callum [Wright] is still out, and that’s all.”
Ndidi, who was in excellent form prior to his injury, contributed three goals and four assists in 15 matches across various competitions. The manager’s update suggests a hopeful return for Ndidi after the international break, providing some clarity on the midfielder’s recovery timeline.
