On November 13th, several NFL quarterbacks, including Derek Carr, Baker Mayfield, and Deshaun Watson, sustained injuries during Week 10 of the 2023 season. The extent of these injuries and the potential timelines for return are yet to be determined, as the players injured in Sunday’s games will undergo further evaluation.
Derek Carr suffered a right shoulder injury and was evaluated for a concussion during the New Orleans Saints’ 27-19 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Carr, who completed 13 of 18 passes for 110 yards, left the game in the third quarter. Additionally, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas (knee) and cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ankle) also exited early.
Jameis Winston stepped in as the backup quarterback for Carr and will continue in that role until Carr is healthy. The Vikings also had injuries, with running back Alexander Mattison sustaining a concussion, and linebacker Jordan Hicks (leg) and cornerback Akayleb Evans (calf) leaving the game early.
The Atlanta Falcons faced a setback as quarterback Taylor Heinicke suffered a hamstring injury during a 25-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Desmond Ridder replaced Heinicke, and Falcons coach Arthur Smith stated that a decision about their starting quarterback will be made going forward.
Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers injured his thumb during a 20-6 win over the Tennessee Titans but completed the game. Several other players, including Titans linebacker Chance Campbell and Jaguars wide receiver Jamal Agnew, also suffered injuries in their respective games.
The Baltimore Ravens had multiple injuries in their 33-31 loss to the Cleveland Browns, including offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (knee), cornerback Marlon Humphrey (ankle), and linebacker Trenton Simpson (concussion). Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson sustained a left ankle injury but expressed confidence in being ready for Week 11.
In a 23-19 win over the Green Bay Packers, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Kwon Alexander suffered a serious leg injury, tearing his Achilles and ruling him out for the rest of the season. Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt and defensive end Trey Hendrickson, Chargers tight end Gerald Everett, and Chargers linebacker Chris Rumph also sustained injuries during their respective games.
The Buffalo Bills will host the Denver Broncos in the final game of Week 10 on Monday, kicking off at 8:15 p.m. EST in Orchard Park, N.Y.
