Aston Villa receive boost as key player return back from long term injury

The latest update from BirminghamLive reports that Aston Villa’s defender, Alex Moreno, has made a return to action for the Under 21 side in his quest to regain full fitness after a hamstring injury. The injury occurred during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield in May, and since then, Moreno has been sidelined, missing the entirety of the pre-season as he focused on rehabilitation.

Despite returning to the matchday squad in September, Moreno has had a slow comeback. He was an unused substitute against Crystal Palace and Legia Warsaw but did not feature in the subsequent match against Chelsea. Manager Unai Emery explained that Moreno was not completely comfortable to play at 100%, leading to his exclusion from the squad. Afterward, he hasn’t been named in the squad.

However, Moreno seems to be making progress on his road to recovery, as he played 63 minutes in Aston Villa U21’s 4-3 victory over Swansea City in the Premier League Cup. The left-back shared an update on X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing his satisfaction with gaining some minutes on the pitch, stating, “Minutes for the legs..!”

It was previously noted that Moreno had faced a setback in his recovery, with Emery mentioning their patience with the player’s progress. Emery stated that Moreno had been training with the team, but the final step to be fully ready for official matches had not been completed, prompting a pause in his return.

The article concludes by inviting readers to share their thoughts on Moreno’s return to action and asks for their opinions on the positive development.
