Aston Villa player on his future decision, reveals family wants him to continue

In September, Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen disclosed that his family would play a crucial role in determining his future with the Swedish national team. Despite being the second-choice goalkeeper at Villa Park, the 33-year-old has been a stalwart for Sweden since making his debut in 2015. Sweden’s coach, Janne Andersson, has continued to include Olsen in the squad, providing an opportunity for him to discuss his future with TT during this month’s international break.

Olsen has now revealed that he has received the support of his family to continue representing his country. Expressing his desire to continue, he acknowledged the significance of family input in his decision-making. With 69 appearances for Sweden, during which he has kept 31 clean sheets and conceded 74 goals, Olsen emphasized the importance of his national team role and the positive impact he believes he has demonstrated in matches.

As he awaits the arrival of his third child, Olsen, while considering family factors, expressed his current inclination to stay with the national team. He highlighted the enjoyment he has experienced in the years he has played for Sweden and emphasized that, as of now, he is not ready to step away.

When asked about potential changes to his decision, Olsen humorously mentioned the chaos that three children might cause at home while he is away. However, he admitted uncertainty about what could alter his stance and reiterated that, at present, he does not feel ready to retire from international duty.

Despite being the second-choice goalkeeper at Aston Villa behind Emiliano Martínez, Olsen remains committed to the national team, with his decision influenced by a combination of family considerations and his continued passion for representing Sweden on the international stage.
