Burnley are set to take up the option of extending potential star contract, with several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the midfielder

Burnley is poised to exercise the option to extend Josh Brownhill’s contract amid heightened interest from several Premier League clubs, according to sources. Initially dropped from the starting lineup in the early weeks of the season, the vice-captain swiftly regained his place and has proven to be a consistent standout performer for the club.

Despite Vincent Kompany’s decision to bring in Sander Berge and pair him with Josh Cullen, Brownhill’s importance to Burnley has become evident. With his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, the club is aware of growing interest from Crystal Palace, Wolves, West Ham, and Bournemouth. However, Burnley has already decided to activate the option to extend his stay at Turf Moor by an additional 12 months.

Furthermore, there are indications that Kompany is eager to secure a long-term deal for the 27-year-old midfielder to ward off potential suitors. Brownhill, a former Manchester United trainee, has played a pivotal role in Burnley’s recent success, particularly in their promotion from the Championship last season, making him a respected leader in the dressing room.

Despite Burnley’s current struggles in the Premier League, sitting at the bottom with only four points from 12 matches, Brownhill has contributed two goals and is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s fight for survival. Kompany has emphasized to the Burnley board the importance of securing Brownhill’s future, urging them to avoid leaving the midfielder exposed to potential transfers in the upcoming January window. While the contract extension option safeguards his value for now, the club is actively seeking to extend the arrangement further to protect both his valuation and avoid a similar situation in the following year.
