Micah Richards disagrees with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker over Pablo Sarabia goal against wolves vs Tottenham

Micah Richards is of the opinion that Pablo Sarabia’s recent goal against Tottenham Hotspur is the standout contender for the Premier League’s goal of the season. Sarabia, who scored his first goal of the season, played a crucial role in Wolves’ late comeback against Ange Postecoglou’s team. Coming on as a substitute in the 86th minute, he not only leveled the scores with an impressive volley but also set up Mario Lemina for the game-winning goal.

This performance was seen as a breakthrough moment for the 31-year-old Spaniard since his move to Wolves in January. Despite his extensive experience playing in France, Spain, and Portugal, Sarabia has found it challenging to adapt to the pace of English football, featuring mainly as a substitute in his 21 appearances for the club.

Sarabia, when asked about the goal, humbly responded that he wasn’t sure if it was the best of his career but acknowledged it was a very good one. However, Micah Richards, a former Villa defender, strongly believes that Sarabia’s goal deserves the title of goal of the season so far.

In a discussion on The Rest Is Football podcast with co-hosts Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, Lineker expressed admiration for Sarabia’s goal but hesitated to label it a goal of the season contender. Shearer, on the other hand, highlighted another impressive goal scored by Simon Adingra for Brighton over the weekend. He argued that Adingra’s goal, with its intricate touches and finish, was a strong competitor.

However, Richards disagreed with both Lineker and Shearer, asserting that Sarabia’s goal stands out due to the exceptional technique required. According to Richards, the ability to control the ball mid-air on the weaker foot and then finish with the favored foot is a skill possessed by only a select few players worldwide. In his view, asking ten people to replicate that goal would yield only a couple of successful attempts, making it his choice for goal of the season so far.
