Reading FC boss on the distraction of the ownership saga

Reading manager Ruben Selles has acknowledged that he has intentionally distanced himself from discussions about the club’s potential new ownership, citing the considerable time and attention it had been consuming. The owner, Dai Yongge, recently placed Reading up for sale and allayed concerns of a winding-up petition by settling two overdue tax bills.

Mark Bowen, the Director of Football Operations, has expressed optimism in a statement, indicating that the ownership transition is approaching a much-anticipated resolution. However, with Reading currently positioned 10 points adrift at the bottom of League One and facing financial constraints, supporters and staff are eager for positive developments regarding a new takeover.

Selles, speaking after a 5-2 victory over Arsenal Under-21s, revealed that he has consciously chosen to “switch off” from the ownership discussions, as they had been demanding a significant amount of his time. He emphasized his commitment to focusing on the football side of things and mentioned that he would be willing to engage in discussions if the club approached him for input. Selles emphasized the need to redirect his attention to football matters, given the numerous complexities surrounding the ownership situation.

Reports suggest that three parties are still in talks with Dai Yongge regarding the club’s ownership, although none has been granted exclusivity at this stage. The situation remains fluid, and Selles seems determined to maintain his focus on the team’s on-field performance until a resolution is reached.
