What AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli, has said about Olivier Giroud’s two-game suspension

AC Milan has chosen not to appeal Olivier Giroud’s two-game suspension, resulting in the striker’s absence from the matches against Fiorentina and Frosinone. This decision poses a significant challenge for manager Stefano Pioli, particularly considering the team’s struggles in the No. 9 role.

Giroud has been a prolific scorer for AC Milan this season, netting seven goals. His deputies, however, have found it difficult to replicate his goal-scoring prowess. Luka Jovic, who is yet to score for the Rossoneri, and Noah Okafor, with two goals to his name, face the daunting task of filling Giroud’s shoes during his absence.

The decision not to appeal the suspension was influenced by Giroud’s inappropriate comments to the referee, for which he has already apologized. Milan, aware that lodging an appeal would consume significant time and energy, has opted to accept the suspension.

With Giroud unavailable, Jovic is expected to take on the role of the starting striker against Fiorentina, providing him with an opportunity to open his goal-scoring account for the team. Okafor remains an option, but he may need to cover for the injured Rafael Leao on the left flank.

Giroud is set to return for the match against Atalanta, and his availability for the Champions League is assured. Given the potential absence of Leao in the Dortmund game due to injury, Giroud’s experience and presence will be crucial for AC Milan.
