Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney donate thousands to burgled shop

Stephen Tapp, proprietor of Wrexham Trainer Revival, expressed his gratitude towards celebrity owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds of Wrexham AFC for their generous £3,500 donation. The sportswear shop fell victim to a burglary at the end of October, and Tapp was profoundly moved by the support.

Tapp, overwhelmed by the Hollywood actors’ gesture, conveyed his astonishment, stating, “It was overwhelming – I literally had to be picked up off the floor. One of the biggest actors in Hollywood donating money to my little shop, it’s ridiculous. We were about to wrap up the online donations page then they doubled the amount I’d already received – taking it to £7,000.”

The break-in occurred shortly after celebrating the shop’s one-month anniversary in its new location. Tapp admitted feeling on the verge of giving up after the incident, but the financial support from the American couple who initiated the donation page and the subsequent outpouring of messages on social media changed his outlook. The funds covered all expenses, ensuring the continuity of the business.

Reflecting on the unexpected connection with the celebrity duo, Tapp mentioned that his son had encountered Rob McElhenney after a Wrexham victory. McElhenney recognized Tapp as “the trainer guy,” leaving him astonished. Tapp expressed his disbelief, saying, “I didn’t realize they even knew I existed, so this has blown my mind. They’re welcome to the shop anytime. There’ll be a couple of free T-shirts there for them, that’s for sure.”

The news coincides with the confirmation of the third series of “Welcome to Wrexham.” The announcement anticipates the series two finale, set to be released on Hulu and Disney+ in the UK, depicting the football club’s journey toward “either promotion or the dreaded playoff.”
