Rams QB on track to return after missing one start with thumb injury

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford appears to be on track to make a return after missing one start due to a thumb injury. In practice, Stafford showed confidence as he took snaps and threw the ball without any apparent difficulty. Despite the injury, his performance in practice has given him optimism about playing against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Stafford sustained the thumb injury during the Rams’ 43-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on October 29, hitting his thumb three times, with the last instance occurring when he caught a 2-point conversion early in the third quarter. Initially concerned about the severity of the injury, Stafford was relieved to find out that it was not as bad as he initially thought.

Throwing in steady rain during practice provided Stafford with an additional measure of his recovery progress. The quarterback expressed his happiness about getting back on the field and appreciated the opportunity to test his recovery in the rain.

For the Rams, having Stafford back after missing only one game would be considered the best-case scenario. The team has struggled in recent weeks, losing three straight and four of their last five games. Stafford, despite modest statistical production, brings experience and passing skill to maximize the offense, especially with injuries at the running back position.

In the absence of Stafford, the Rams’ offense failed to score a touchdown and managed only 187 total yards in a 20-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers on November 5. With Stafford starting and finishing the seven games he played, the Rams averaged 22.1 points, ranking 15th in the NFL, just behind the Seahawks.
