Gabriel Agbonlahor has expressed his belief that Aston Villa’s young talent, Jacob Ramsey, has the potential to eventually join England’s senior squad. Agbonlahor, speaking on TalkSport, urged England manager Gareth Southgate to consider more Villa players for future selections, specifically mentioning Ramsey as a player deserving of attention.
Despite facing injury setbacks for most of the season, the 22-year-old Ramsey has proven himself as a significant contributor to Villa’s first-team plans when fit. He emerged during Steven Gerrard’s tenure at the club, and Agbonlahor sees Ramsey as a player who could secure a place in the full England international squad once he returns to full fitness.
Agbonlahor highlighted Ramsey’s unique abilities in his position, suggesting that England could greatly benefit from the midfielder’s skill set. With Ezri Konsa recently earning a call-up to the England national team alongside Ollie Watkins, Agbonlahor sees no reason why Ramsey couldn’t be the next Villa player to achieve international recognition.
Ramsey has already showcased his talent for the U-21s and demonstrated his potential in the Premier League. Agbonlahor envisions playing for Southgate’s England as a natural progression in Ramsey’s career, emphasizing the midfielder’s capability to shine on the international stage for the European giants.
Furthermore, considering the declining reputations of midfielders like Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips, Agbonlahor believes that Ramsey could be a viable successor for these players by 2024.
