Last month, reports from Spain indicated that Wolverhampton Wanderers had shown interest in São Paulo’s young talent, Lucas Beraldo. The 19-year-old center-back, who joined São Paulo’s academy in 2020, has been gaining attention with his performances since making his first-team debut in May 2022.
Beraldo has become a regular presence in São Paulo’s lineup this year, accumulating significant playing time with 44 appearances and 3,869 minutes on the field. His promising displays have attracted interest from European clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers.
According to reports from Lance!, Beraldo has received inquiries from both Wolves and AS Monaco. However, it remains unclear whether these clubs have directly contacted the player, his representatives, São Paulo, or a combination of these parties.
Despite the growing interest, the young defender recently extended his contract with São Paulo until 2028, which includes a substantial €60 million release clause. The Brazilian club reportedly has ambitious plans for Beraldo, aiming to make him the most expensive Brazilian defender in their history, surpassing the €12 million fee earned from Breno’s transfer to Bayern Munich in 2007.
Despite the high release clause, São Paulo is said to be open to negotiations and could be willing to sell Beraldo for around €20 million. The report suggests that Wolverhampton Wanderers have initiated contact to secure the young talent’s services, and while there’s acknowledgment that Beraldo “could leave” São Paulo, it is not explicitly stated whether a potential transfer might occur in January or during the upcoming summer transfer window.
