Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop is optimistic about the team’s chances of returning to the Premier League. According to a report in the Football League Paper (19/11), the 31-year-old, who briefly played in the Premier League with Bournemouth, sees the current Tigers squad as a promising avenue for him to experience top-flight action once again. Celebrating his 350th senior appearance last weekend, Allsop believes that this squad is the best he has been a part of since his time at Bournemouth. Comparing it to his previous experiences, he notes the higher levels in training, the team’s approach, and the communication of instructions.
Under the management of Liam Rosenior, Hull City currently holds the eighth position, tied on points with the sixth-placed Sunderland. Allsop is confident that if the team remains focused, they possess the quality necessary to secure a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017. While emphasizing the importance of staying grounded, he expresses the collective ambition within the team to reach higher goals in the competitive world of football.
Reflecting on his football journey, Allsop, who began his career at West Brom, had to go to Iceland for his initial senior football experience with Hottur. He later returned to the UK, joining Leyton Orient before making the move to Bournemouth in 2012 when they were a League One team. Despite being part of the squad that reached the Premier League, Allsop had limited opportunities and went on loan to various clubs. Notably, he won the Checkatrade Trophy with Lincoln City, making a crucial penalty save in the semi-final against Chelsea Under 21s.
After brief stints with Bournemouth in the Premier League, Allsop joined Wycombe, helping them to the Championship in 2019/20, before spells at Derby and Cardiff led him to the MKM Stadium with Hull City.
The writer acknowledges Allsop’s resilience throughout his career, having experienced relegation to lower divisions on multiple occasions. Despite the challenges, Allsop’s commanding presence, towering stature, and composed goalkeeping approach have consistently benefited the teams he has been a part of. The writer expresses optimism about Hull City’s performance under the guidance of the experienced Allsop and the promising coaching of Liam Rosenior, suggesting that a top-six finish by May would not be a complete surprise for the team.
