It seems that Bradford City manager Graham Alexander made a tactical decision to substitute Bobby Pointon at half-time during their 4-2 loss to Notts County in League Two. Despite Pointon arguably being one of the best performers for City in the first half, Alexander chose to bring him off as part of a change in formation.
The manager explained that the decision to substitute Pointon was not based on his performance but rather a tactical adjustment. Alexander wanted to switch to a three-man central defense with wing-backs, requiring more aggressive pressing from the players in those positions. Unfortunately for Pointon, there was no place for him in this new formation.
Alexander acknowledged the strong support from the 2,276 traveling City fans, especially in the second half. He mentioned that the supporters’ backing was crucial in difficult circumstances and that the players were lifted by it. Alexander emphasized the importance of a two-way relationship between the team and the fans, suggesting that the players need to show endeavor on the field for the supporters to rally behind them. Despite the loss, he felt that the team demonstrated fighting spirit in the second half.
