Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership of Wrexham AFC has significantly elevated the club’s profile, attracting fans from well beyond Wales. The ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary, airing on FX, has played a crucial role in offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the club’s on and off-field activities. Under the Hollywood owners, Wrexham achieved record-breaking promotion from the National League last season.
To further expand the reach of Wrexham in the United States, the club has collaborated with the ‘Men in Blazers’ podcast. This partnership aims to help American audiences “fall in love” with a team situated thousands of miles away in the United Kingdom. Rob McElhenney expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the captivating nature of Wrexham AFC, its team, city, and community.
Roger Bennett, co-founder of the Men in Blazers Media Network, praised Wrexham AFC as the greatest “micro-megapower” in football. Through the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary, the club has engaged a vast global audience, fostering connections with the team’s journey in a spirit of joy, meaning, and inclusivity. The new collaboration, titled ‘This Week in Wrexham,’ aims to provide weekly content for the American audience, delving into the current season as it unfolds, episode by episode.
The collaboration plans to produce 30 weekly episodes, offering season-long coverage of events in North Wales. The goal is to create a platform that fosters a deep emotional connection between Wrexham fans worldwide and both the club and the town it represents. Additionally, a monthly “deep-dive digital special” featuring a prominent Wrexham figure will be introduced, with star striker Paul Mullin initiating discussions on various Wrexham-themed topics. This comprehensive content strategy seeks to engage and connect fans with the club’s journey on and off the pitch.
