Brighton & Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber has hinted at the potential departure of fantastic 19-year-old star

Brighton & Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber has hinted at the potential departure of Evan Ferguson, amidst reported interest from Manchester United. Despite signing a new contract earlier this month that ties him to the club until June 2029, the 19-year-old forward’s future at Brighton seems uncertain.

Ferguson has garnered attention as one of England’s promising young talents, boasting an impressive record of 15 goals and four assists in 43 appearances for Brighton, including 11 goals and two assists in 31 Premier League matches.

While Barber emphasized the importance of securing young players with long-term contracts, he acknowledged that Ferguson’s trajectory could lead him to higher levels in the future. The CEO stressed the club’s commitment to preparing him both on and off the field for potential challenges ahead.

Barber stated, “At some point in the future, Evan’s gonna be playing at an even higher level if his trajectory continues as it is. We want to make sure that we do everything we can to prepare him for that.”

Despite the desire to retain top players, Barber acknowledged the inevitability that players may have their own ambitions and preferences for clubs, leagues, and competitions. He emphasized the importance of showing players clear pathways, not only within the club but also beyond, to attract and retain talent.

Ferguson’s performances have attracted interest from not only Manchester United but also Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The young talent, who started his professional career at Bohemians before joining Brighton’s academy, made his first-team debut in August 2021 and has been a regular contributor, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances last season and five goals in 11 appearances this season.

Brighton is reportedly seeking a significant transfer fee, potentially a British-record fee, for the sale of the promising center-forward. As speculations surrounding Ferguson’s future continue, the club remains focused on maintaining its successful model and progressing its cycle by attracting and nurturing young talent.
