“It Doesn’t Really Mean Anything Right Now,” Ravens QB On Being The No. 1 Seed In AFC

As the Baltimore Ravens secure the top spot in the AFC standings with an 8-3 record after 11 weeks into the 2023 NFL season, quarterback Lamar Jackson remains focused on the journey ahead. When asked about being the No. 1 seed in the AFC, Jackson downplayed its significance, emphasizing that there is still a substantial portion of the regular season left to play.

The Ravens claimed the top seed in the AFC following the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. However, Jackson is quick to note that their half-game lead over teams like the Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns, all with a 7-3 record, is precarious. He emphasizes the need to stay grounded and recognizes that maintaining the top spot requires consistent effort in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the Ravens face the challenge of navigating the rest of the season without the presence of All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews, who is sidelined indefinitely due to an ankle injury suffered in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the setback, Jackson expresses confidence in the team’s depth, particularly among wide receivers and running backs, to step up and fill the void left by Andrews.

“We have great receivers, and we have a great backfield… That’s why we’re able to go on without our brother,” Jackson stated, emphasizing the team’s collective strength and adaptability in the face of adversity. As the Ravens prepare for a Week 12 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers, Jackson remains focused on the challenges ahead and maintaining their competitive edge throughout the season.
