Former manager of Lincoln City, Huddersfield Town, and Portsmouth, Danny Cowley, has been without a managerial position since departing from Fratton Park in January of last year. Reflecting on his experiences with Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth, where he left a lasting impact, Cowley, alongside his brother and assistant Nicky, is now strategically planning their return to coaching.
In an interview with LiveScore, Cowley emphasized the importance of choosing the right project for their next managerial venture. The 45-year-old expressed a desire to work with people who share their vision of intelligent and value-adding football management. Despite their high standing after leaving Lincoln in 2019, Cowley emphasized the valuable lessons learned from their time at Huddersfield and Portsmouth, both prominent clubs with lofty ambitions.
Cowley had been in consideration for the managerial role at Bradford City earlier this month. However, he withdrew from contention, stating that the timing and fit weren’t optimal. Cowley acknowledged Bradford City as a fantastic club but stressed the significance of thoroughly understanding a club’s current status and future aspirations before committing to a managerial role.
While reports suggested that family reasons influenced Cowley’s decision to reject Bradford City’s offer, he clarified that relocation has never been a deterrent for professional opportunities. Cowley, along with his family, has been open to moving for job opportunities in the past. However, in the case of Bradford City, he explained that it simply didn’t align with what they were looking for at that specific moment.
