Huddersfield Town should be wary of their January ‘target’ based on their Championship form.

Huddersfield Town has reportedly shown interest in acquiring the services of CJ Hamilton, the in-form winger from Blackpool, as the January transfer market approaches. However, caution has been advised, urging Huddersfield to consider Hamilton’s goal-scoring history in the Championship before pursuing any potential move.

The 28-year-old winger, whose contract with Blackpool expires next summer, has attracted attention from various clubs, including Queens Park Rangers and Derby County. With his contract situation, Blackpool may be inclined to sell him in January to avoid losing him for free.

Despite Hamilton’s impressive form this season, where he has provided six assists and scored one goal in 19 appearances across all competitions for Blackpool in League One, his past record in the Championship has raised concerns. In his two previous Championship seasons with Blackpool, Hamilton managed only three goals but contributed nine assists in 63 games.

Former Leeds United and England midfielder Carlton Palmer has voiced skepticism about Hamilton’s potential impact in the Championship, especially for teams like QPR and Huddersfield that are battling to avoid relegation. Palmer suggested that Hamilton might be a more suitable prospect for a League One side like Derby, emphasizing that his statistics in the lower leagues are more promising. Palmer believes that a move to a League One or League Two club could be beneficial for Hamilton and could significantly contribute to their promotion ambitions, with the added advantage of being a cost-effective option.
