Darren Moore is poised to welcome back two players into his lineup for the upcoming Championship clash against Southampton this weekend, providing a timely boost to the squad. The encounter with the fourth-placed Saints at the John Smith’s Stadium poses another challenging test for the Terriers, but the potential return of Danny Ward and David Kasumu is on the horizon.
Both players participated in a closed-door match against Premier League side Nottingham Forest during the international break, indicating their readiness to potentially feature in the upcoming game. Ward, the striker, has been sidelined since September due to an Achilles injury, while Kasumu’s return would greatly benefit Moore and the team, considering the midfielder has been limited to just three Championship appearances this season. Kasumu recently made a comeback to the bench against Hull City, and there’s optimism that he might further progress in his recovery with a first-team appearance.
In addition to Ward and Kasumu, Moore mentioned that Jack Rudoni and Delano Burgzorg are nearing a return. Although the latter pair won’t be available for the weekend fixture, Moore expressed hope that they could make appearances before the end of the year, as the team faces a busy schedule.
Regarding Ward and Kasumu’s potential involvement against Southampton, Moore stated, “We’ll see, they are back in training. The nice thing is both are back in training and involved in that game.” Looking ahead, the Terriers have challenging fixtures against Sunderland and Swansea City before rounding off a demanding run of six games in 22 days, including home matches against Bristol City and Preston North End, as well as an away trip to Millwall on December 16.
Providing updates on the longer-term injuries, Moore expressed encouragement about Rudoni’s progress and confirmed that Burgzorg would return to action before the turn of the year. Despite the upcoming busy schedule, Moore is optimistic about Rudoni’s availability later in the year, acknowledging the midfielder’s commendable strides in his recovery process.
