‘He will improve’ – Charlton Athletic boss Appleton backs player to improve form

Charlton Athletic manager Michael Appleton remains confident that highly-rated striker Miles Leaburn will rediscover his scoring form soon. Despite the 19-year-old having received ample playing time over the past season-and-a-half, he has only managed to find the net once in his last eight appearances. Appleton, however, is not concerned and believes that Leaburn, burdened with added responsibility in the absence of Chuks Aneke, will continue to improve.

Appleton expressed his belief in Leaburn’s potential, emphasizing that the young player will develop and enhance his skills. The manager highlighted the importance of games like the current ones for Leaburn’s growth and acknowledged the positive impact of home support on young players.

Leaburn, who began his career with Chelsea before joining Charlton in 2019, has become a regular in Charlton Athletic’s first team. Despite facing a dry spell in front of goal, Appleton fully supports the striker and hopes that he will contribute significantly during the winter to boost Charlton’s chances of securing a spot in the League One play-offs.

Having made 40 appearances and scored 13 goals last season, Leaburn has already found the net seven times in the current campaign. However, there have been reports linking him with a potential move away from Charlton, with Chelsea and Brentford expressing interest in bringing him to the Premier League, as reported by London News Online in late October.

Charlton Athletic recently drew 1-1 against Carlisle United, placing them in the 10th position in the table with 23 points from 17 games. As they aim to close the seven-point gap to the top six, Charlton faces Cheltenham Town at home on Tuesday.
