Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of a significant development involving Hwang Hee-chan, with reports suggesting that the South Korean international is close to signing a new contract at Molineux. The potential extension is seen as a crucial move both on and off the pitch for Wolves, according to Talking Wolves presenter Dave Azzopardi.
Despite facing challenges at the start of the season, including the departure of manager Julen Lopetegui just before the campaign began, Hwang’s standout performances have contributed to Wolves’ positive season. The winger has played a key role in the team’s recovery from key departures during the summer transfer window, including Ruben Neves.
Wolves are reportedly making positive strides in contract negotiations with Hwang, who has expressed his satisfaction working under interim manager Gary O’Neil. Hwang’s impressive form, with seven goals and two assists in 13 appearances this season, has made him a vital player for Wolves.
While Hwang still has more than two-and-a-half years left on his current £30,000-per-week contract, Wolves are eager to secure his long-term commitment. Sunday People chief sports writer Neil Moxley believes it wouldn’t make sense for Wolves to part with the 27-year-old, especially given his recent success in the Premier League. Leeds United had previously tested Wolves with a £17 million bid during the January transfer window, but Wolves chose not to accept the offer.
Interim manager Gary O’Neil is optimistic about reaching a positive conclusion in contract discussions with Hwang and sees the potential agreement as a boost for the team. Hwang initially joined Wolves on loan from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, and the move was later made permanent for a £14 million fee.

Wolves are said to be considering a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent, targeting Ramsdale as a replacement for Jose Sa, who is the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Despite Ramsdale falling out of favor at Arsenal, the club’s strong negotiating position is noted due to the goalkeeper’s contract running until 2026.
