Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, humorously addressed the question of Sean Longstaff’s involvement in the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. Longstaff, who missed the Chelsea match due to an ankle injury, did not travel with the squad to France and is unlikely to be part of the fixture at Parc des Princes.
Eddie Howe had previously mentioned that Longstaff would “probably not” be part of the trip to Paris after sustaining the ankle injury at AFC Bournemouth before the international break. With a smirk, Howe responded to the question about Longstaff’s participation, stating, “Quite remote as he hasn’t traveled, so I doubt it.” Howe indicated that there wouldn’t be much change in the squad from the Chelsea match, except for players ineligible for the Champions League.
Despite Longstaff’s absence, Newcastle faces PSG with a depleted squad, missing 14 players due to injuries and others ineligible for the competition. Players like Mark Gillespie, Matt Ritchie, Emil Krafth, and Javier Manquillo are ineligible for the Champions League after being omitted from the squad. Newcastle needs a positive result to avoid elimination from the competition, and even a draw may not be sufficient if AC Milan beats Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
