Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson conceded that Charlton Athletic proved to be one of the most formidable opponents his team has encountered this season in League One. The match at Brunton Park ended in a 1-1 draw, with Corey Blackett-Taylor scoring for Charlton in the 54th minute, and former defender Sam Lavell equalizing for Carlisle eight minutes later.
Speaking to Carlisle’s YouTube channel, Simpson expressed satisfaction with the result, acknowledging Charlton as a strong side. He highlighted Charlton’s attributes, including their pace, power, and ball movement, emphasizing that Carlisle should aspire to reach that level of play.
Lavell, who had previously made 41 appearances for Charlton and had a loan spell at Burton Albion, scored his first goal for Carlisle against his former club. Simpson praised Lavell’s goal and mentioned the significance of scoring against his old team. Despite Lavell’s limited opportunities in previous matches, Simpson acknowledged the importance of the first goal, stating that it would provide a significant boost for the player and that securing a point from the game was a positive outcome for Carlisle United.
