Charlton Athletic boss not making hasty striker recall decision as

Charlton Athletic head coach Michael Appleton has not discussed the immediate recall of Daniel Kanu from his loan at Southend United following Miles Leaburn’s hamstring injury. The full extent of Leaburn’s injury is expected to be revealed by the end of the week after he was forced off in the first half of a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town.

Appleton addressed the potential recall, stating, “I think when you are not playing league football, it is normally a 24-hour recall.” However, he expressed confidence in the team’s alternatives, including young talent such as Micah Mbick and Patrick Casey, who recently scored five goals in the U23s. With Chuks Aneke also sidelined until the beginning of 2024 with a muscle problem, Charlton will have to manage without key players for the time being.

In the absence of Leaburn, Manchester City loanee Slobodan Tedic entered the game and had notable opportunities to score. Despite missing the chances, Appleton expressed satisfaction with Tedic’s performance, mentioning that he had demanded more from the player in recent weeks and was pleased to see a positive reaction. Appleton acknowledged Tedic’s potential as an asset to the team if such performances become a regular occurrence.
