Charlton Athletic are reportedly interested in signing the 26-year-old star during the January transfer window.

Charlton Athletic is reportedly interested in securing the services of Newport County midfielder Shane McLoughlin during the upcoming January transfer window. The 26-year-old, who only joined Newport in the summer, has quickly become a key player for the League Two side, contributing significantly with five goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

According to reports from Football Insider, Charlton Athletic, along with League One side Wycombe Wanderers, is considering a move for McLoughlin in the winter transfer window. Charlton’s manager, Michael Appleton, is gearing up for his first window in charge and aims to strengthen the squad to enhance their chances of securing a playoff spot in the second half of the season. Charlton is currently positioned 10th in the league, seven points adrift of the top six.

McLoughlin, a former Republic of Ireland youth international, started his senior career in England with Ipswich Town. After two appearances for Ipswich’s first team, he gained experience through loan spells, including a stint at Bromley in non-league football. Subsequently, he played for AFC Wimbledon and Morecambe in the third tier before moving to Salford City. McLoughlin joined Newport County in July on a two-year deal and has quickly become an integral part of their midfield.

With interest from Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers, it remains to be seen if McLoughlin will make a move in the upcoming transfer window, potentially continuing his journey in the English football league system.
