SPECIAL CHARLTON BEER TO BE SOLD IN MEANTIME FANS’ BAR, AFTER………

The Meantime Fans’ Bar at The Valley will feature a new beer, specifically crafted for the occasion during the festive period. Named Robins Tavern, this red ale pays homage to a now-extinct pub situated behind the Covered End, a relic from the time when Charlton departed The Valley in 1985. The pub’s sign, currently displayed in the Charlton Athletic Museum, serves as the inspiration for the design of this unique ale.

Ian Wallis, a Museum Trustee, expressed the historical significance of reviving this piece of the past at the beer’s launch. He highlighted the presence of a pub behind the Covered End before the club’s relocation, and the pub’s sign now adorns the museum. Steve Sutherland, Charlton’s Commercial Manager, recalled the Robins Tavern bar in the Covered End, emphasizing the natural connection to create a beer based on the old pub sign. He hopes that supporters will embrace the new ale, potentially turning it into a house favorite.

Acknowledging the importance of recognizing the past while moving forward, Sutherland praised the partnership with Meantime, a Charlton-based brewery, for their assistance in this venture. The beer, a blend of an old Meantime recipe, promises a unique flavor profile with citrus, pine, and a blend of English malts, offering tangerine, grapefruit, and pine notes. As a nod to Charlton’s iconic red color, this red ale is a welcomed addition to The Valley’s beverage selection.

Fans can enjoy Robins Tavern at upcoming home games against Cambridge United on December 9th, Burton Albion on December 23rd, and Oxford United on January 1st. Michael Clack from Meantime Brewery emphasized the beer’s evolution from their back catalogue, showcasing the blend of five English hop varieties that contribute to its distinct taste.
