Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, acknowledging a slow start to the season, has recently garnered praise for his improved performances. According to Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, Guimaraes has returned to his best form in the past few weeks. The Brazilian played a crucial role in victories against Chelsea and Manchester United, and despite a near-win in Paris, the team suffered a setback with a 3-0 defeat at Everton.
Despite the recent loss, Howe sees Guimaraes as a vital player, describing him as the “fulcrum of everything.” Howe highlights Guimaraes’ importance by noting that the team hasn’t won any of the six league games he has missed since his full debut in March 2022.
Ahead of the match against Tottenham Hotspur, Howe emphasized the significance of top players performing well, particularly praising Guimaraes for his standout performances against Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as the first half against PSG. Howe commended Guimaraes for his creativity, ball control, and physical prowess both on and off the ball.
Reflecting on the season’s beginning, Howe mentioned that, despite early scrutiny on Guimaraes and the team’s struggles, he never had an issue with the player. Howe acknowledged that players’ form fluctuates throughout the season and believes Guimaraes is currently showcasing his best performances.
Regarding Guimaraes’ previous ankle injury, Howe expressed uncertainty about its impact but noted that Guimaraes handled it well, rarely missing training sessions. Guimaraes himself confirmed that the ankle is now fine, reflecting on playing through pain in the previous season to support the team, expressing satisfaction with the overall experience. Despite a slow start to the current season, Guimaraes believes he is now performing at his best.
